Community Consultation

Overview

Community Consultations, structured as a sole trading entity, is a place where community groups, organisations, events, workshops and conferences can go for advice and support. Where committees can engage in frank and open discussion regarding the development, operation and sustainability of their organisation or group.

Community Consultations has both skills and experience in many aspects of community organisations and if the need arises, have access to other professionals with specialist knowledge to support your requirements.

Community Consultations was first contracted to provide advice to a local council in May 2005 and since then has worked with a number of organisations and groups in both a paid and voluntary capacity, providing advice and support around governance, insurance, structure, policy, sustainability, succession planning, marketing and staffing.

What is Community Consulting?

A generalised term for seeking comment on issues and using a variety of skills and experience to interpret and direct actions to achieve change and move in the direction of strength and resilience building.

There are a number of benefits to be had for your organisation from engaging in community consults;

An understanding of external influences eg; politics, financial policy, social changes, leglislation that may affect the operation of your organisation and its ability to achieve its stated objectives. An insight into market positioning as an organisation and that of your products, services and staff. A confirmation or affirmation that current policies, processes and strategies are ‘on course’ and appropiate.

Examples:

Central Coast Community Council where John, having held a number of Board positions, continues to work with other board members and staff, toward strengthening and growing the peak body for non-government not for profit organisations in the Region.

Community Congress where as an active committee member continues to work with others in celebrating and sharing community successes.

Central Coast Transport Development Project [comprising in itself of over 20 community initiatives involving government, commerce and community] where as the inaugural Central Coast Transport Development Officer, John committed 4 years arguing the case for sustainable and improved transport options for the community.

John’s most recent work has been with the Benevolent Society, driving a unique project Men Accessing Resources and Services which is designed to encourage organisations and agencies within our communities, across the Hunter and Central Coast, to become more accessible for men. To build self esteem, pride and strengthen all men in our families and communities to become better role models for our young men and boys whilst attempting to address the level of suicide, anger and depression.

A few other roles and initiatives: Chair of National Mens Health Gathering local organising committee; Instigator of Mens Interagency, Mens Shed Cluster, Mens Community Development Network, creator of the Blokes Card and reviewer of the Blokes Book.
